Choices

Updated: Jul 2, 2020

"See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. In that, I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments; that you may live and multiply."

- Deuteronomy 30:15-16

It amazes me that God has given us free will. God could have created us to choose him, but instead; he sets before us life and death, and gives us a choice.

His desire is for us to desire him. However, God wants us to serve him because we love him, not because we have no other choice. We are not God's puppets, he doesn't control us. Of course, he wants us to choose him, but he also wants us to make that choice for ourselves. He wants to have a relationship with us; not a dictatorship.

Although we have choices, there are still consequences for our actions.

For example, The Israelites (God chosen people) strayed from honoring God. Although they had eaten manna from heaven and witnessed the parting of the red sea; They still worshipped false idols. Their journey out of Egypt which was supposed to take 11-days took 40 years! Several acts of disobedience, and choosing idols over God; led them away from the promise land. Choosing to follow God isn't a one-time thing; in fact, it's a daily thing. Every day is full of choices. You can choose to not follow God; however, you will miss out on the promise land. Life is better than death.
