More Life

Updated: Sep 6, 2019

Approximately 130 million babies are born each year, however, 40 million pregnancies are also terminated every year. Abortion rates are increasing at a shocking rate, and several unborn babies are missing out on their right to live. Although humans have advanced technology, established societies, and found cures for diseases; humans cannot create life.

In Genesis, we see that God created...

Adam out of dust (Genesis 2:7)

Eve using Adam's rib (Genesis 2:21-22)

Animals from the ground (Genesis 2:19)

Humans have none of these capabilities!

God is the uncreated one, the ultimate potter, and all life is a result of his power. Humans can never imitate God in this act (creating life) because we aren't as powerful as him. God creates with intention, purpose, and love; he doesn't create for fun, but for his glory. Indeed, God is still creating life with that same care and vision.

Because God orchestrates life, he has authority over our existence, over our bodies, and over our responsibilities. As a result, there are certain things that we don't have the authority to do. God gave humans dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:28), so we are allowed to cultivate what he has created; not disrupt it. That is why abortion is a sin because it is removing a piece of God's vision, and rebelling against his authority to dictate who enters the world. God doesn't dictate how people live their lives, but he is able to dictate who will live their life. God is the only one that can choose who will live on Earth, no one else has that right. God doesn't destroy lives, so it's definitely not ok for others too. Especially since God has more power than any human on earth.

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good”

- Genesis 1:31

As humans will never understand the full meaning of life because we cannot create life. There is serious labor involved in creation; Throughout his six days of creating the Heavens and the Earth, God worked so hard that he had to rest. He worked until he was satisfied, and saw that “it was good”. Every creation has been approved by God, each creation has met the mark.

“ By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”

- Genesis 2:2

All humans were created to glorify God when a woman has an abortion she is revoking a vessel of God. Every abortion is a proclamation that life isn't valuable, Which is a lie from the pit of hell. The enemy doesn't want children to live and pursue their callings. He also doesn't want to see mothers turn to God and seek his guidance. Mothers who contemplate abortion believe that they are between a rock and a hard place, but THERE IS HOPE. The same God that created life is also the God of mercy, provision, and favor. Everytime that he is sought after, he is found. It is better to deliver a child than to get an abortion. Every child is loved by God before they are even born, and everyone has the right to live.

In the Supreme court case Roe V. Wade, the courts declared that a woman has the right to get an abortion because it is her body; therefore it is her choice. However, our bodies don't belong to us, if they did then we would be able to create ourselves. Society has created the notion that our bodies are our property, and that we are allowed to control what occurs on “our property”; and as a result, abortion is a women's right. But we are God's property, and we should yield ourselves to what he desires. When God creates a child and places it in a woman's womb, it is his will for that child to be born. God has given us the responsibility to take care of our bodies, and use them to glorify him. Ultimately he has the authority over our bodies. The “right to choose”, isn't a right that we have been given. Although that's highly debated in this day and age, it's been made very clear in the bible.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?”

- 1 Corinthians 6:19

What is a temple? A property devoted to worship!

Our bodies have been designed to hunger for God and submit to his plans. Apart from worshipping God, we have no purpose. Aside from worshipping God, our bodies are misused.

The "my body, my decision" mantra is completely false because our bodies are vessels of God. We are his possessions and he should have his way with us. In fact, he is responsible for our entire existence, the least that we can do is offer our bodies as sacrifices to him. Take notice that God doesn't force people to dedicate their bodies as a sacrifice to him; that's why abortions have been successful in the past. Although God isn't pleased with abortion, he doesn't dictate what we use our bodies for. Why? Because he has given us free will.Which should compel us to serve him with our bodies. Who wouldn't want to surrender their body to a just and gracious God?

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

- Romans 12:1

We do not rule ourselves, therefore every decision that we make should be a God conscience one. Living with an intention to glorify God can prevent abortion. For example, God wants us to abstain from sex; when abstinence is practiced then there is no need to worry about an unplanned/unwanted pregnancy.

There is a false belief that freedom consists of doing whatever pleases you, however, that is not the case. True freedom is found in serving God and surrendering to his will regardless of the circumstances. The driving force behind the “pro-choice” agenda is giving women a sense of freedom; however, abortion isn't enlightening, it is accepting the status quo. It is so much easier to comply with worldly concepts than to live for God. Living for God requires growth, discipline, focus, dedication, and so much more. Living for God won't always be comfortable because he has called us to live a life that is very distinct. However, living for God is highly rewarding. Needless to say, belonging to God is a privilege and a true honor.

Abortion denies...

God's right to be supreme.

A women's right to be used by God, in raising a child.

A child's right to live.

When does life begin?

It's a question that has haunted scientists for several years now, and none of them stand in agreement on their responses. Some would say that life begins when the egg is fertilized, others would suggest when it reaches the second trimester, and other scientists claim that mothers are in the position to decide when a fetus is considered a human being. However, God’s say in the matter holds more importance than that of any human. Although it may seem like an innocent question, it has been utilized as a catalyst in the "pro-choice" movement. What if I told you that the beginning of life shouldn't be questioned; but yet the meaning of life. It is so easy to scientifically and emotionally dismiss the beginning of life; however, the meaning of life can never be dismissed. In fact, the meaning and significance of life can only be found in biblical scriptures.

Before we were created, God was already thinking about...

Our well being.

Our purpose.

Our salvation.

The Bible tells us that we have been given eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. God sent his son to die for us before we even had the opportunity to sin. God was concerned with where we would be after death before we even arrived on this planet! Needless to say, we meant something to God before we were even in our mother's womb. Life here on earth isn't the beginning or the end of our existence. Although we are only physically present on this earth for a short amount of time (compared to eternity); our spirits will live on forever. Our existence isn't an accident, a misfortunate event, or a fluke; it’s apart of God's will. Abortion questions when life begins, but what is the true definition of life? A beating heart isn't the evidence of life, it's the evidence of life on earth; but not life in general. The Bible teaches us that life is more spiritual than it is physical. Your spirit is more alive than your body will ever know! Everything that occurs in the physical, has already occurred in the spiritual. Heaven and Hell are referred to as the afterlife; because life is beyond possessing a physical body.

As believers we are able to proclaim that God and the Holy Spirit are alive; even though neither of them possesses a body that roams on this earth. We are also able to proclaim that Christ is alive even though he no longer walks on the earth because life is a spiritual complex. When a human is created they possess a mind, body, and spirit. Therefore an unborn child is already alive spiritually because they possess those tripartite assets. That's why when a child is aborted they go to heaven because they possess a spirit that is capable of traveling there. Meaning that an unborn child is indeed alive, although they have not been born yet. Bodies are not capable of traveling through spiritual realms, that's why life isn't just based on physical attributes. The spiritual realm is more real than the physical world. Life can never be taken away because we've been created to live for eternity. Our spirits will never die, therefore we will always exist. Abortions are sinful because they undermine this concept.

God has known us since before we were conceived, and he will know us after we leave this earth. From the beginning of time, God was thinking about us, he was already anticipating having a relationship with us. He has never questioned the significance of our existence, so we shouldn't either. Isn't it interesting that an unborn child is only celebrated when they are wanted by their parents? However, when they're unwanted/unplanned their humanity is questioned; and abortion becomes an option. God recognizes the significance of life before conception, and he will never question the meaning of an individual's existence. In the Bible, we see a couple of women who waited upon the Lord for a child and were very grateful when their wombs were opened (Sarah, Hannah, Rachel, Elizabeth). Which tells us that children should be cherished! Children are not a burden from God, he loves them. In Mark 10:14 Jesus, says "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these." Christ values the children in the same way that he values us. Psalm 127:3 says, "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” The life of an unborn child isn't less valuable than the life of a teen, adult, or senior citizen. All lives are equivalent.

Abortion is murder, and it shouldn't be tolerated. Exodus 23:7 says "Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty."

Although our society has several theories as to why abortion is ok. It's not ok. All the authority belongs to God. Therefore we should respect God, by respecting life! If the unborn babies were given a choice, would they really pick death instead of life? As believers we shouldn't support the status quo, let's support what's right! Abortion is a moral issue, and God mourns the loss of every aborted child.

I'll leave you with this!

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

- Proverbs 3:5-6
