We should develop and maintain a relationship with God before we engage in romantic relationships; so that our relationships can be godly and fruitful. If you desire a godly relationship one day, just know that God is faithful and his timing is perfect. When your season of dating/courting arrives just remember that as a daughter of a king, you should strive to be with a godly guy and not settle.

I truly believe that being with someone that has the same beliefs as you, makes dating less complicated. Especially since the purpose of dating is to find a spouse.

Aside from prayer and wise counsel, how can you identify if a guy is godly?

Well here are 8 great traits that all godly guys possess!

If he is godly then...

1. God will be his highest authority

A godly guy will seek the kingdom before anything else. The Holy Spirit will guide his every move! he won't be perfect, but he'll aim to please God.

2. He will bear good fruit

The best way to measure someone's intentions and character is by their fruit. Anyone can pretend to be godly, but you can't fake fruit. What an individual produces in their life speaks for itself. Anyone can quote scripture (the devil can quote scripture, read in Matthew 4:6), anyone can go to church, anyone can pray. But not everyone faithfully and seriously serves the Lord!

3. He will seek wise counsel

There may be moments when you will need a mediator and outside advice. Studies show that Christian men are more likely to seek counsel, due to their core values. Proverbs 12:15 says, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel”. The last thing that you need is a guy that's too prideful to listen to others.

4. He will challenge you spiritually

You don't want to be with someone that will watch wallow in sin! Of course, you must have self-awareness, but a husband is called to “ Wash his wife in the water of the word” (Ephesians 5:26) meaning that he should desire to hold her accountable and lead her closer to the Lord. A godly man will not sit around and watch his wife disobey and rebel against the Lord, if he truly loves you then he will not allow you to suffer spiritually! You want to be with a man who craves godliness in every aspect of his life, especially in his marriage.

5. He will encourage you in the Lord

As godly women, we must encourage ourselves in the Lord just as David did. Imagine how nice it'll be to have a husband that will also encourage you in the word so that you can make it through trials, and evolve in life.

6. He will be able to positively impact your lineage

Several generations will come after you, and how you live, can and will affect them. If you marry a godly man, then you can trust that he will lead your children and teach them alongside you.

7. He will know your worth

This is vital! If he doesn't know God, then he won't know your true worth. A godly guy will know that you're precious in the eyes of God, which will ultimately dictate how he treats you. Just know that you won't be met with ungodly expectations or requests in a godly relationship.

8. He will lead you in purpose

When someone doesn't know God, then they don't know their purpose. If you marry a man that doesn't know their purpose, even if you know your purpose then you will be led in circles; you won't fulfill anything. A godly man will have a mission and a vision, and he will lead you to where God wants you guys to be.

All in all, we should strive to be godly for ourselves, and aim to have high standards. Godly guys do exist, and we must always remember that we don't have to settle. Make sure that you're staying true to yourself and what you desire. Lastly, keep in mind that God does fulfill our needs as it is written in Psalms 37:4.
