20 things in 20 years

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

I'm so excited to share these with you! I've learned more than 20 things in my life (LOL), but these have to be the most essential things that I've gathered through life thus far. These aren't ranked in any specific order, and they each carry so much value.

1. God's great love is limitless

I grew up in church, so I always heard about God’s love when I was younger. However, It wasn't until I grew in my faith that I truly encountered it. I've learned that I will never be able to fully comprehend it because his love isn't like any other love out there. God’s love isn't tainted or conditional, and he will always love us despite our downfalls. There's nothing that we could ever do to earn it; God's love is everlasting and without limits!

2. You don't need to chase approval

I used to cherish the accolades and affirmation of people; however, I learned that the applause of the world will never be fulfilling. In our culture what's "in" and what's "out" changes constantly, but God’s best never changes. It is better to please God than man (Galatians 1:10).

3. Quality over quantity

Wheater it's clothing, friendships, or food (LOL)! Trust me you'd rather have the best than the worst. You'd rather have a taste of excellence versus loads of mediocre. Sometimes we settle because we don't believe that there's better, but there's always better out there.

4. Giving is everything

Giving is a biblical principle, and it's never going out of style. You'll never lose anything from giving, in fact, you will gain plenty from it.

5. $aving money is key

Always live within your means, make reasonable purchases, and set a budget. You don't want to look back and realize that you wasted what you could've saved. I wish my 16-year-old self would've saved instead of shopped!

6. Step out on faith

We aren't always going to understand what God is doing, and his methods won't always seem clear to us but God knows best. If we want to be in alignment with him we must follow his lead, even when it seems risky.

7. Worship your way through life

We were created to worship, and our praise is the most powerful thing that we possess! Worship connects us to God in the most intimate way, and worship is always nessacary. Doesn't matter whether you're going through a storm, or living the best moments of your life; worship is key.

8. No one is perfect

Never put anyone on a pedestal, humans are always going to be imperfect and flawed. Allow God to meet all of your needs and expectations. Psalm 18:30 says, "As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD's word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him."

9. Maintain godly relationships

God has blessed humans with relationships, within the confines of relationships we can grow, bond, and experience joy. Whether it's a friendship or romantic relationship, make sure that God is always the center, it's better AND easier that way.

10. Pursue your calling

I could never stress this enough! God has crafted each and every one of us with unique purposes and special gifts. Ask the Lord to reveal your calling to you and get going!

11. High five the single life

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being single! Enjoy your time alone with the Lord before a boy enters your life. Waiting is necessary! All good things come to those who wait, don't rush the single season. God will bless you with a relationship when it's time. But for now, enjoy the process.

12. Accept correction

Have people in your life that are willing and excited to elevate you to another level. It's not easy to receive constructive criticism, but when it comes from someone that has your best interest at heart it's beneficial to you.

13. Stand for your morals

It was very hard for me to stand up for my beliefs when I was younger, especially in high school. It wasn't easy being the kid that wasn't doing what everyone else was doing. But it was worth it because our actions (especially as believers) speak louder than our words! Don't be mistaken, people are always watching; and you never know who you could win to Christ by staying true to your beliefs.

14. It's okay to be different

We’re meant to be different and set apart. Trying to fit in will ALWAYS be the death of purpose! Christ never tried to fit any mold, instead, he embraced the word of God. Anyone can fit in, but world-changers stand out!

15. Carpe diem

We need to seize each and every day that we have on this earth. I try to treat myself DAILY! Now that doesn't mean breaking the bank, it could include calling a friend, reading a book, buying a smoothie. Just make sure that you’re not taking life for granted.

16. Extend grace

We must show grace to others because grace has been shown to us. Grace isn't an excuse to sin or a mockery of righteousness, but an extension of compassion. Often times it's difficult to extend grace to others because we may not be familiar with their struggles; however, we mustn't let that stop us.

17. Rise above

Whether it's an argument or a huge controversy; we must always strive to be the “bigger person”. We must ask ourselves if we'd rather be “right” or righteous? Sometimes the best way to win any situation is to just walk away from it. It is better to maintain integrity than potentially lose a witness.

18. Fear is a liar

Fear is a false belief that God isn't capable of. Because when we fully rely on God, fear has no place in our lives. We mustn't give in to fear and the insecurities that come along with it. God has already conquered fear, therefore we have no reason to doubt his abilities.

19. Seek God before anything else

Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I've experienced this first hand! God WILL always provide when you submit to him first. All of life's riches come from God; peace, wisdom, faith, confidence, etc. We don't have to look anywhere else, because everything that we need is found in the kingdom!

20. God is the greatest promise keeper

All the promises of God are yes and amen ( 2 Corinthians 1:20)! God doesn't lie, neither does he exaggerate. There is NOTHING that is impossible for him! Therefore when God makes a promise to us, we must trust him because he is faithful!
